Tuckahoe School
Southampton, NY
The Tuckahoe School is an elementary school located in Southampton, NY. The K-6 school was an existing 28,000 sq ft facility with a planned new 22,500 sq ft building addition. The owner's initial requests from the design team were for elements of "green architecture" to be incorporated into the design and to qualify for rebates from the local utility company.
AKF prepared a feasibility study for the initial phase of the project in which the comparative first costs, annual energy costs, maintenance costs, acoustic, and environmental impact considerations for five alternate heating and cooling plant equipment schemes were explored. The study identified the open loop geothermal heat pump system as the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly scheme and also provided initial construction costs savings over conventional systems.
