Rivers and Estuaries
Visitor's Center, Beacon, NY
The Rivers and Estuaries Center is a state-sponsored worldwide research & education center for the study of rivers and estuaries based on the Hudson River watershed. The Visitor's Center is housed in an existing masonry structure on the site of a former brick factory located on the Hudson River at Denning's Point. The project was designed to achieve a LEED® Silver certification. MEP sustainable features incorporated into the project include:
- Composting Toilets
- Geothermal Heat Pumps
- Green Roof
- Grey Water Systems
- Natural Ventilation (Wind Towers)
- Non-CFC or HCFC Refrigerants
- Radiant Floor Heating System
- Solar for Domestic Hot Water System and Geothermal System Preheating
Other sustainable features include:
- Reuse of Existing Building Core and Shell
- Use of Certified Wood
- Use of Low Emitting Materials
- Use of Regional/Local Materials
