John Rice, PE

Mr. Rice is committed to providing innovative, cost-effective sustainable design solutions that enhance human comfort within the built environment while achieving high levels of energy efficiency.
Mr. Rice is a Partner at AKF and has over 20 years experience in designing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. His interest in energy solutions began early in his career during his studies at Columbia University's School of Engineering and Applied Science where he concentrated on energy conversion and power generation course work.
Mr. Rice is a LEED® Accredited Professional and leads AKF Engineer's sustainable design initiative. He has presided over intermediate and advanced LEED® workshops, and has presented before architectural, engineering and green building organizations on topics of integrated design and the engineer's role in sustainable design.
Mr. Rice works personally on each project, from the conceptual stages through design and construction, carefully coordinating the design team's efforts with his client's requirement. Mr. Rice has collaborated on the design of buildings incorporating innovative sustainable features such as: high performance building envelopes that function as part of the HVAC system, geo-thermal heat pumps, radiant floor heat system, condensing boilers, heat recovery systems and gray water systems.
Mr. Rice is a licensed professional engineer in the states of New York and Connecticut.
