Main Chiller Plant Re-Commissioning, World Financial Center, New York, NY

AKF was involved in testing and re-commissioning the main refrigeration plant serving the World Financial Center complex. Testing and re-commissioning was primarily focused on the river water pumping and heat rejection systems.

The systems consisted of eight large (4,000 GPM) vertical turbines, river water pumps that served ten heat exchangers which included the condenser water heat rejection system for the 10,000+ ton refrigeration plant. Performance testing and re-commissioning of the pumps and heat exchangers was performed to identify the plant deficiencies, AKF documented the deficiencies and prepared recommendations for both upgrading and replacing the equipment to improve system.

Recommendations were developed for consideration by the client. Once upgrade decisions are determined and completed, the river water cooling system will be re-commissioned to verify the performance of the entire system and the individual components.
