Approach
At AKF, we understand that there is not one project management style that can be successful for all projects. Project management has to be flexible in order to achieve engineering solutions that work from a technical, cost and operational standpoint. It includes:
Upfront Planning - In the initial planning stages a clear scope of work is established to familiarize the client with the project's specific requirements and to facilitate effective scheduling and budget control. A specialized team is then created that matches the talents of the AKF professionals to the technical demands of the project.
Budgeting - Project budgets are established with an eye toward initial cost, effective technical solutions, as well as future operating and life cycle costs. After the budgets are developed, periodic in-house meetings are held to monitor costs through the entire design phase of a project.
Scheduling - Engineering design schedules are developed to allow careful monitoring of the production milestones that must be met to keep a project on track. These schedules may range from simple bar charts to sophisticated computerized programs, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. AKF has considerable experience with fast-tracking projects and can expedite schedules to meet the specific needs of the project.
Project Coordination - AKF is noted for its' ability to accomplish complex assignments. Interaction with leading architects and specialty consultants is carefully coordinated to assure document accuracy and consistency.
Specifications - At AKF the people who design the engineering systems also compose the specifications. This provides first-hand input into the specification process to ensure accurate drawings.
Shop Drawings - Emphasis on service does not end with the submission of contract documents. By providing a timely and comprehensive review of all shop drawings, AKF minimizes the potential for future project delays.
Post Completion Review - AKF's obligation to clients extends well beyond the design phase of a project. Comprehensive post occupancy reviews are undertaken at six and 12-month intervals following occupancy to ensure optimum systems performance.
Software & Communications Systems - We feel that the most recent software releases encompassed with formal training helps to provide accuracy, consistency and efficiency. Some of theses products include AutoCad, Trane, HASS and Microsoft software. Our Deltek Wind-2 FMS accounting software is also of importance to our clients for accuracy.
With the ability to consult with our very own AKF Technologies, crucial communication components can be configured to give AKF maximum communication technology while simultaneously offering maximum security. With advanced systems such as our Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Remote Desktop our staff can access any AKF office remotely and securely 24/7/365.
Quality Control - Continual in-progress reviews are conducted by senior personnel through each project phase. Senior engineering personnel not associated with the project perform a formal quality control review at the completion of contract documents. Follow-up continues through the construction phase to ensure accurate interpretation of all design documents.
Timely - We recognize the importance of completing a project design on time as well as within budget. We work as a team to effectively interface with the Owner and consultants to achieve the solutions that allow the project to move forward. This may consist of segmenting the project or utilizing data from previous experience during the normal course of the project.
Our goal is to create an atmosphere that takes the "mystery" out of the engineering process enabling our clients and consultants to feel comfortable throughout the process. Our track record of successful projects undertaken for Fortune 500 companies, leading institutions, major building Owners and distinguished design firms is the best indication of our level of client satisfaction.
